From the rust-brown of the semi-arid lowlands to the green, gold and purple of wildflower-filled alpine meadows, our Colorado road cycling tour will give you a great opportunity to discover what “Colorful Colorado” is all about.
In the beautifully preserved Victorian town of Durango, cycling is not just a pastimeā¦ it’s a way of life. The roots of cycling and its colorful pedigree here in what is known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado go back more than a century. genius.
Teddy Roosevelt’s vision around 1905 was to preserve the “Alps of America,” the San Juan Mountain Range within a 1.8 million-acre (3,000 square mile) national forest. Our guides live for it: sharing some of the area’s incredibly scenic routes and unique terrain features. A large open road winds through tall meadows that roll like waves, exploding with shoulder-high wildflowers. For those who want to shoot, a discreet sign at the beginning of the trail, “Beware of Traffic,” means that the space can be shared with mule deer, coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, bobcats, not to mention some 200 species of songbirds and birds of prey.
From Durango and past the Mesa Verde National Park, we ascend through four challenging passes (each over 10,000 feet) to the beautiful mountain towns of Telluride, Ouray, and Silverton.
We breathe in the clean mountain air, and the scenic roads lead us through the sea of Rocky Mountain peaks towering around us. If the climbs and ascents have made you hesitate about joining this tour in the past, we recommend using our new electric bike. It will double your power during the tour and won’t disturb the view.
